The Crown Inn is at the Upper end of Market Street, on the left.  It is the “yellow” building.  Deliveries should be made only to the rear entrance, on the service road, accessed off the ring road (Uxacona Way) by the bus station.  Follow signs to “Delivery Area A

The Crown Inn opens at 12 noon and closes its doors at 11 p.m. every day of the year except at Christmas and New Year.

On Christmas Day, we open at 12 noon as usual but close at 3.p.m. – It’s OUR Christmas Day too!

On New Year’s Eve, we open at 12 noon as usual but we close at 4p.m. before re-opening for our ticket-only New Year’s Eve Party at 7 p.m.  Last admission for the party is at 10 p.m.

On New Year’s Day, we have to recover too, so we open at 4p.m. and are then open for normal hours.

Trains: Oakengates is served by its own railway station, on table 74 of the National Rail Timetable.  Trains run approximately hourly between Birmingham International, Birmingham New Street, Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury, stopping at Oakengates, although there are more trains from further afield (Chester, Aberystwyth & London Euston) that stop at Telford Central Station.

Buses: Arriva buses 4, 5, 5A, 7, 14 & 15 all stop at Oakengates Bus Station, which is right behind the Crown Inn.  These can all be caught at Telford Bus Station, while the 5 runs to Stafford Railway Station on the West Coast Main Railway Line.  We believe that they also all stop at Telford Central Railway Station, although the latest timetables are not all clear on this point!

Arriva has finally provided an updated bus map of Telford.  When we find a way of making the file small enough, we’ll put it on this page!

First of all, be careful if using a SatNav!  Some will try and turn you off the A442 onto Station Hill – a drop of about 30 feet off the bridge!  Secondly, not all SatNavs have yet caught up with the alterations to the one-way system in Oakengates.  It’s simple – try this!

1) From the A442, turn off at Greyhound Interchange using the exit signed B5061 Oakengates and Saint George’s;

2) Follow the signs to Oakengates down the long hill (Station Road);

3) Turn right at the first roundabout onto Station Approach (wrongly named on some SatNavs as “Stafford Road” or “Uxacona Way”);

4) After about 150 yards, cross the mini-roundabout (onto Uxacona Way) and the Zebra Crossing and then turn left (after about 20 yards) at the Sign for “Delivery Area A“.  This brings you to the Free Car Park next to the bus station and right behind the rear entrance to the Crown Inn.  This is a lot easier than trying to park on Market Street, which is a narrow one-way street with a 2 Tonnes weight restriction and a 40-minute parking limit!  There are also no steps at the rear.
